The Ohio Pharmacists Association (OPA) announced that Aleda Chen, R.Ph., PharmD, PhD, FAPhA of Cedarville, Ohio was honored with a 2021 UNDER 40 Recognition Award for leadership, excellence, and vision in the practice of pharmacy at its 143rd Annual Conference held April 16-18.

Chen is the Interim Dean and an Associate Professor at Cedarville University School of Pharmacy. She is very passionate about the profession of pharmacy and has served in multiple leadership roles throughout her career. Chen is also working with OPA on several grants related to opioid misuse and the promotion of vaccines to the public, that benefit the clinical work of pharmacists. She has been widely published and has done many presentations during her career. Chen is an Associate Editor for Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ohio Northern University and her Dual-Title Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmacy Practice and Gerontology from Purdue University.

Aleda's response when asked Why do you belong to OPA? I have been involved with OPA since I was a student at Ohio Northern, and I believe the benefit of OPA is their tireless advocacy for the profession. Ohio has been at the forefront of advancing pharmacy practice for decades, and we now have provider status! It is the tireless efforts of our professional associations and the members coming collaboratively together that results in our ability to show what we can do to take care of patients (and get paid for it!).

“We are pleased to recognize Aleda Chen who has exemplified leadership, excellence, and vision in her practice. She has been a valued member of the Association, and we look forward to her future contributions to the profession of pharmacy,” said Ernest Boyd, OPA Executive Director.

OPA, established in 1879, represents more than 4,000 pharmacists, pharmacy educators, and pharmacy students throughout the state. It is OPA’s mission to unite the profession of pharmacy and encourage interprofessional relations, while promoting public health through education, discussion, and legislation.
