APhA Recognizes Ohio Pharmacists

The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) gives highest honor to OPA member Marialice Bennett (see other web article) and recognized other Ohio pharmacists.

Ernest E. Boyd, PharmD (Hon), MBA, CAE
Thomas E. Menighan Pharmacy Management Excellence Award

Ernest E. Boyd, BS, PharmD (Hon), MBA, CAE, OPA Executive Director, was selected to receive the Thomas E. Menighan Pharmacy Management Excellence Award. The award recognizes an individual who has  developed and/or implemented an innovative, original pharmacy program or service which is significant to their area of practice. Ernie has provided years of extensive and meaningful contributions as a state pharmacy association executive in Indiana and Ohio, and played an instrumental role in supporting implementation of Ohio provider status legislation, impacting the national conversation. 

A graduate of Butler University College of Pharmacy, Ernie went on to earn an MBA degree at Indiana University. He was pharmacy manager of The Prescription Shop in Athens, Ohio before taking the position as Assistant Chief Pharmacist at Regenstreif Health Center in Indianapolis. Ernie started his career in association management as Assistant Executive Director of the Indiana Pharmacy Alliance where he worked for nine years before coming to the Ohio  Pharmacists Association as Executive Director in 1988. Ernie is a graduate of the Institutes for Organization Management and earned a Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation from the American Society of Association Executives. In 2017, he was awarded the John W. Dargavel Medal of the National Association of Community Pharmacists Foundation.

Stuart Beatty, PharmD, BCACP
Daniel B. Smith Practice Excellence Award

Stuart Beatty, PharmD, BCACP, OPA Director of Strategy and Practice Transformation and assistant professor of clinical pharmacy at OSU, was selected to receive the 2021 Daniel B. Smith Practice Excellence Award by the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Pharmacy Practice & Management (APhA–APPM). The award recognizes a pharmacy practitioner, in any practice setting, who has distinguished himself/herself and the profession through outstanding performance and achievements. Stu started an interprofessional diabetes clinic, anticoagulation service, transitions of care service, and polypharmacy clinic, building one of the highest-functioning outpatient pharmacy programs in the country.

Student Awards: University of Cincinnati

The University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy was recipient of APhA’s Region 4 Operation Immunization Award, Region 4 OTC Medicine Safety Award, and was first runner up for the APhA-ASP Generation Rx Award.
