Governor Bob Taft signs Retail Food Establishment Bill!

SB 136 revamps Retail Food Establishment licensure laws

On November 21, 2001, Governor Taft signed into law Senate Bill 136, sponsored by State Senator Lynn Wachtmann (R-Napoleon). SB 136 revamps the current licensure law associated with Retail Food Establishments (RFE), and eliminates the requirement for pharmacies to obtain a license as a RFE. Many pharmacies around Ohio received visits from their local boards of health in 2001 and were required to pay high fees to receive licensure as an RFE. SB 136 exempts pharmacies from that requirement as long as you do not sell perishable food items. The bill contains an emergency clause and went into effect immediately upon the Governor’s signature.
